excellent, attractive/designer styling, functional watch for work or play, with a sturdy/heavy nylon band. I love self-winding Seikos. And the price is very reasonable. When the band gets dirty I'm going to remove it and throw it in the washing machine; what more could you ask for.

A Decent and Good-Looking watch, January 12, 2008

By Just Jeff (Adelphi, MD)
This review is from: Seiko Men's SKZ209K1 Five Sports Stainless Steel Automatic Watch (Watch)

This is a nice automatic watch with a functional solar compass and decent accuracy (I get +10 seconds a day). The bracelet is also good quality and nice looking with no huge gaps between the links. The day indicator can be shown in both French or English. The movement is non-hacking and the watch cannot be hand wound. The only way wind the watch is by gently shaking it or wearing it for a while.

The only complaints I have with the watch are minor. One is the knurling on the uni-directional dive bezel is too smooth and it takes some effort to turn. Also the crown that controls the inner compass bezel doesn't offer much resistance and turns easily while on your wrist. The last minor problem was more to do with the packaging. My watch didn't come with manufacturer instructions on how to use the compass bezel. I had to go onto the Internet to find what I needed.

Very tough yet good looking watch. Keeps very good time and has a very good scratch resistant crystal. The compass really isn't very useful but looks really good. The band is super comfortable but the fold over latch with the Seiko name on it comes open quite easily. It does have a secondary latch on the band that has never come open by accident so you never have to worry about losing your watch during activities. Overall this is a very well made and good looking watch for the active type of guy. I would rate this watch from 1 to 10 at a strong 9. The only hitch is the latch on the band that has the Seiko name on it. If they could fix that I would rate the whole thing a perfect 10.

i bought a 1.5k swiss automatic watch, fancy with diamonds but the mechanism begun to pulverize i was able to see diminute particles on the inside of the glass after 1 month of use, i returned the watch and got this simple and reliable one and i love it !!
is precise as a atomic watch... jk it runs ok i timed with my computer and compared after a week and there was no difference at all so i did it for a month and it was about 2 seconds over

i might get an other watch and leave this one for daily use i was hoping a bigger watch plus i miss my fancy ridiculous watch :(

after wearing a big watch this one feels like a cable tie on my wrist make sure you check out the dimensions

the thickness is great tho, the weight... you will forget you have it at first the wrist band was a little bad... it irritated my skin with micro cuts so i took vengeance and cut those sharp melted wristband pieces away

Got the METAL band NOT resin!!!, November 18, 2009
By Timothy D. Brown
This review is from: Seiko Men's SKX779 "Black Monster" Automatic Dive Resin Strap Watch (Watch)

This is a great watch and I'm very happy with it but I received the metal band, not the resin one from "Mr. Watch" when I ordered it. I prefer a non metal band but I suppose its nice to have. I would sell it if the offer is right. Its brand new...email me if you want to make an offer. BE ADVISED I GOT THE METAL BAND NOT THE RESIN ONE LIKE THE TITLE SAYS!

About Seiko
In 1877, at the age of 18, Kintaro Hattori set up business repairing the Western-style clocks that were becoming increasingly popular in Japan. By 1892, Hattori was manufacturing his own clocks in a factory he called Seikosha, from the words "seiko" meaning "exquisite," "success," or "miniature," and "sha" meaning "house." The company grew and prospered, producing its first wristwatch in 1913 and launching the Seiko brand in 1924. Technological innovation has always been a driving force in the company's history. Key milestones include Seiko's introduction of the world's first quartz watch in 1969, and its successful launch, in 1988, of the Kinetic, the world's first battery-free watch with quartz accuracy. Today, the Seiko brand continues to stand for state-of-the-art technology, as well as superior quality and refined design.

Customer Review Seiko Orange Monster :
(By Robert F. Weaver , April 16, 2010)
I have had this watch for about two months now and have zero buyers remorse. This watch seems to be the perfect size, and you are not concerned about having to remove it for a shower. It fit my wrist from right out of the box without any band adjustments. My wrist is average size. I especially like its luminous markers which you have no trouble seeing in the dark. The day of the week, and date could be larger for quick glances, which would be an improvement for all watchs with this feature. I have been pleased with all purchases made from Amazon. Shipping time on the item was faster than I expected.

Customer review : By L.Yu from NY
i am writing this through the mrs account but what the heck. ordered this automatic seiko to replace the invicta pro diver which seemed to have gone kaput on me. well i was in greece and notice that the invicta was like 1/2 late. the watch has stopped somewhere along the way- so the invicta which i loved which i owned for pretty much exactly 2 years. the invicta stopped and started every now and again - the movement on the invicta is a citizen watch company miyota 8162 - but i digress...

anywho - i was looking for another watch - something i didn't have to replace batteries for (actually i ended up buying 2 watches from amazon - the seiko and a casio g-shock watch) and decided against solar, kinetic, eco-drive watches. they have an internal rechargeable battery which as anyone knows rechargeable batteries at some point would no longer hold a charge.

so i was looking for another automatic - i thought about getting another invicta but decided against it - invicta didn't make their own movements - so i was perusing amazon.com and came upon this Seiko - Seiko makes their own movements - albeit cheap movements not unlike the invicta miyota movement- so i thought they would have better QC if their name was on it and Seiko make fine quality watches and instruments. The movement on this watch is the 7s26b 21 jewels non-hacking (cannot stop the seconds hand when the crown is pulled) - there are a few discussion sites concerning this movement - its predecessor was teh 7s26a... the replacement is purportedly more accurate. the miyota movement in the invicta actually gained like 5 minutes every week.

the watch itself i thought was simple yet elegant. can be worn on casual or formal i think. The blue face makes it all the more attractive. the face is smaller than what i'm used to with the invicta dive watch - that was 40mm.. this one is around 38mm. it displays the day and date... the day comes in spanish too. depending on what you want it to read... it can be a little tricky setting it to how you want it to read but i had no trouble setting it to english. what happens is it will inevitably go to spanish in the wee hours (when you are probably asleep anyway) and quickly switch back to english of the NEXT day. you'll have to fiddle with the time to see when exactly it changes the day so you can set the dominant language you want to see the day on.

when it arrived i was very happy with the watches appearance. it came in a light blue handsome box - inside the watch had protective plastic around the center links. the Seiko tag was there - turn the back and you can see the heart of the watch - it is a see-through skeletonized back where you can see the movement and the heartbeat. what makes the watch automatic is the rotor - your wearing the watch and your bodily movement moves the rotor which winds the watch. the watch is also "resting" on a pillow and on the bottom instructions.

The crystal is Seiko's "Hardlex" - not mineral not sapphire but their own proprietary(?) Harlex crystal.

while the watch is on the small size from a dive watch - seiko certainly put enuff links on their for the big man! i have a small wrist so i had to take off 5 links all together. these links confused me a bit because it is not the usual pins... but these links were actually easier to take out than the usual pins. there are holes in which (i used a bulletin board push pin) if you push it at an angle you can push the pins out and using a needle nose plier quickly take out the pins and links.

i have had this watch for two days and it seems to be keeping time pretty well with the casio - i will compare it for a week to see how well this goes up against a battery driven quartz movement.

so far i'm satisfied with this watch - this was sold on the amazon site by an affiliate - K.G. Company that does not have it's own website - but it had good store reviews so i went with it. Although i think the marketing people at K.G. or amazon thought of a "call to action" device by declaring the "limited" quantities they had - "only 2 in stock -- order soon" -meanwhile i'm sure they had plenty -just to create some sense of urgency on the customers part. I also did see this watch at different pricing with the same affiliate company. $83.99 and at $99.00 - so maybe they are wanting to see which pricing makes a difference or perhaps no difference at all.

so if you're looking for basically a simple watch which tells time accurately (so far) and with the day (in english and spanish)and date display at a good price - this watch is what you're looking for.

Seiko 5 Men's Nylon Band Self-Winding Automatic Watch Model SNK807K2

Seiko Automatic Watches Store today offer you with:
Seiko 5 Men's Nylon Band Self-Winding Automatic Watch Model SNK807K2. This watch looks great. Unlike other self-winding or kinetic watches, this one is compact. In the best tradition of Japanese product development they thought hard on how this watch should function and say about the wearer. The hands are easy to reading, even for those of use with failing eyesight. The second sweep hand has a read tip allowing easy setting of the time.

Unlike some Japanese product, they provided a short, simple instruction on winding the watch. Here, I am comparing them to Citizen's ecco-drive watch, which I also own. Just gently work your arm back and forth for three minutes and the self-wind watch will charge; or, you could wear it for a day.

Product Features

  • Japan 21 Jewel Automatic Self-Winding Movement (Calibre 7S26)
  • Stainless Steel Case with Nylon Band
  • Day/Date Display with Spanish Option, Luminous Hands and Markers, Hardlex Crystal for Durability
  • Screwdown See-Thru Caseback
  • Water Resistant - 30M

Customer Reviews:
By J Michael Nace (NY State)
I bought this watch several months ago and have been pleased with it since. It is quality as opposed to those watches you pay less for. One would naturally expect that but in this day and age paying more does not always equal more quality, but in this case it definitely does. The watch is heavy, and the strap is long enough for most any size wrist (no skimping on strap length) and rugged. In fact, this watch is probably made to wear underwater outside the wet/dry suit but it looks great above water in everyday life! I'm thinking already of buying the same watch in the other color (I have yellow and it is impressive, but it comes in another color as well--that's how much I like it).

This is my baby!5
I love this watch, iv had it for a year now and I have decided this is certainly one of the best purchases I have made in years. This baby will last for years to come from the review of the movement I read about,(up to 10 years with no service).
My watch is only fast by 1 minute or less after a week of wear now that i have "broken" it in. I have read these movements run fast brand new but slow down as they settle in, which is what happened in my case.
Whats not to love about this watch? Its handsome, looks more expensive than it is. Keeps accurate time, (Never forget this is a MECHANICAL watch, which you cant compare to QUARTZ). Iv banged it on doors and others items many times, so far no scratch on the crystal, but a few tiny flakes of paint did come off the bezel, but this is to be expected with paint on metal.
Yes the band is cheap, but works well, and you can always change it yourself if you dont like it.
Day display comes in english and spanish, positions of clock glow in the dark brightly, hands also glow brightly. Movement is good at resisting shocks and abuse. Screw down crown.
Keep in mind that those very expensive multiple thousand dollars watches that are certified chronometer can vary -4 to +6 seconds a day. And this watch comes very close to that.
So if you want to get a good watch, I would highly recommend this one.
Seiko5
Looks good, keeps excellent time, one good shake gets it started and after wearing for a few minutes with run for about a day after laying down. Very happy with this watch.

Great watch, but the WR30M could be an issue for some ...

Seiko offers two similar versions of a mechanical "military" watch:
The SNK809 (which is black, but there are other colors). This has a 21 jewel movement (generally the 7S26B, but the earlier models have the 7S26). It has a 36mm case (excluding the crown) and18mm wide band.
The other model is the lager SNZG15 (which is black, but there are other colors). This has a 23 jewel movement (generally the 7S36B, but earlier models have the 7S36). It has a 40mm case (excluding crown) and an 22mm band.
Both of these watches are gray market. You won't see them for sale in US stores.
I've owned my SNK809 for several months and love it. Its very accurate for the price. Mine gains about 5 sec/day. You'll have to spend a lot of money to do better than that in the mechanical watch world.
Two of my friends own the SNZG15, and they seem to gain about 10 sec/day. Note: The fact the SNZG15 has 23 jewels doesn't mean its more accurate than a 21 jewel movement. It's larger, pushes more mass (bigger hands), and thus I speculate is inherently less accurate than the smaller SNK809.
I got my SNK809 on eBay for $45 + $25 shipping (2009). However, it was shipped from Hong Kong. It had to clear customs, shipping takes about three weeks, and has more inherent risk. I'd expect to pay more on Amazon if it was shipped from within the US. Similarly, I've seen the SNG15 for as little as $105 with free shipping, shipped from Singapore.

What I did not appreciate at the time I bought my SNK809 is that its water resistant rating is 30 meters (WR30M). 98 ft. That seems sufficient unless you're a serious scuba diver, right?

Wrong.

Look up water resistant ratings for watches on Wikipedia.

30 meters is the static water pressure for the test conducted in the ratings lab. The working/dynamic pressure rating will be much less. You should not even shower wearing a WR30M watch, let alone swim with it. WR30M is considered splash resistant only. I have splashed my watch, it still runs great, but depending upon your lifestyle, this may or may not be an issue.
The bigger SNZG15 is rated at WR100M, which you can swim and skin dive with. The smallest rating you should swim with (but no skin diving) is WR50M.
The other aspect of the SNK809 you should be aware of is that its smaller than most watches are today. In the 1960's an 18mm band was typical. Today its small, aesthetically, particularly for a person with large wrists.
When I first got my SNK809, I was taken aback by how thin the band looked (and I have smaller than average wrists). I have read the market Seiko is targeting with this model is teenagers in Asia. That market base probably has smaller wrists than the average American male.
But after wearing it for awhile, I noticed I wasn't banging it into things like I do with my larger watch. And it fit under my shirt sleeves better.
Its notable that my friends say the 22mm SNZG15 is a bit bigger than they wish it was.

I've concluded I like the 18mm band. I'm an outdoorsman (when I can be), and do wish the SNK809 was at least WR50M. Other reviewers will say they wish it had a hacking mechanism or a sapphire crystal. Those are not issues for me, and for the price, let's get real.

This is a phenomenal mechanical watch for what you'll pay. I wear mine to work every day. I wear it to meetings and snicker to myself as my second hand moves at six clicks per second, while others sitting at the table suffer the one second lurch of the ubiquitous quartz movement. Yes, I'm a watch geek. Just be aware of the smaller width of the band and WR30M rating. If those aren't big issues for you, you can't beat it.

Customer Reviews :

Great mechanical watch for the price
Just got this, but have had several mechanicals and Seikos. So, I'll report more in the future. For now, what I like about this watch is:

It's a nice size for small wrists (which I have)

    It's simple, not gaudy

    Inexpensive as automatics go

Long lasting luminescent markings on hours and hands (not second hand though)

    Seems accurate for a mechanical

   Three year warranty

Negatives

   Can't manually wind it

   Band feels weak, cheap

Not very expensive right? For seiko automatic watches.  You can look for other models, seiko automatic watches from here : SEIKO
